CityScape Drawing

CityScape drawings have been a part of history for quite some time. Artists like Edward Hopper would use cityscapes to give the public a view of everyday life in a city. This type of artwork gives a map like view of a city or town. The perspective of the drawing can give you a vision of what the city looks like from above, below, or at eye level.

This semster I have been taking a class called Principles and Elements of design. In this class I have learned so much on what makes a design come together. This is my first project in this class. I created a cityscape drawing from two point perspective. Before beginning this project, we learned about both one point perspective and two point perspective,

I am sharing this project, because I am proud of the work I’ve done. We spent a couple of weeks putting this project together. This drawing displays what I’ve learned so far in this class with balance, value, and colors. For each building, the height must be perpendicular to the vanishing point (where sky and land meet), and the horizontal lines go to the vanishing points on each edge of the paper. I used complementary colors on the color wheel, as well as pattern and movement in my buildings.
